Through the narrow passages the policemen entered the forests of the Sierra in the/ mainland in their search for the fugities. Many of the convicts were found behind/ trees or thickets, but did not resist. They were licked in the wildreness [sic.] of the/ forest. Col. Hidalgo, commander of the 5th Bn. of Cavalry is in the foreground. He/ treated the captives with decency.
