As he / later so wisely observed, “It’s really no trick to fall down on snow / shoes, but it’s quite a trick to get up.” Falling in soft snow is / disconcerting. Thrust out an arm for support and it just keeps going down / thru the snow. Survival students have been known to go in on their / heads leaving only wiggling snow-shoed feet above the snow. Luckily / Cropper upset between two trees and with these as a brace managed to / get back on his feet.
