Recto, [no inscription]; Verso, attached inscription, typed: THOUSANDS OF GERMAN REFUGEES SEEK HOMES – FACE STARVATION. / Owing to the displacement of millions of former residents of Poland / and Czechoslovakia – all Germans – who have been compelled to / evacuate their homes, hundreds of thousands of German refugees from / these territories have arrived in Berlin. Most of them have been / forced to leave again, as there is insufficient food and shelter for / them in the German capital. A chaotic condition has resulted, the / problem being apparently insoluble as long as the German refugees / arrive without supervision in disorganized groups. As winter approaches / thousands of these homeless people face starvation. / PHOTO SHOWS: - Homeless German refugees waiting at the Lehrter Bahnof / Station in Berlin, for trains to take them further West. / GX 1359//10//11//12 September 1945 PN.; handwritten: IIWW Germany Refugees / Children; handwritten: isplaced person; stamped: [star shape] / Credit: / from BLACK STAR / GRAYBAR BUILDING, NEW YORK; stamped: [star shape] BLACK STAR; stamped: COPYRIGHT / PLANET NEWS LTD / S.
