Verso, handwritten [in pencil]: 2nd WW 513 / Norway; typed [on adhered label]: During the open warfare in Norway many towns were reduced to ruins, and thousands / of homes destroyed. Since the Germans have requisitioned all available construction / material and labor there has been scarcely any opportunity to rebuild. People live / with friends or relatives whose homes are still standing. Or they try to erect / temporary homes amid the ruins of the old, as this photograph from Steinkjaer re- / veals. The picture also offers an indication of the spirit in which the people / have faces their misfortunes; stamped: [star shape] / Credit: / 0A10052 / from BLACK STAR / GRAYBAR BUILDING, NEW YORK.
