recto, [no inscription]; verso, handwritten: Brussels Fair March 1958; typed on label: The concrete finger of the Civil Engineering Building points to Atomium / BRUSSELS WORLD’S FAIR 1958 / Belgian Section – CIVIL ENGINEERING and BUILDINGS AND HOUSING PAVILION / This pavilion covers an area of 12,000 square yards. It will be occupied jointly / by the Civil Engineering and Buildings and Housing groups. The principal element of / this complex is a structure built of reinforced concrete, shaped to form a cantilevered / arrow nearly 90 yards long and 40 yards high at its highest point. This arrow rests on / three “feet” which are attached to a foundation consisting of a huge cube of concrete / which, in turn, rests on 28 stones of 100 tons and 87 stones of 60 tons anchored in the / ground. A triangular room surmounted by a cupola acts as a counterweight to the arrow. / A gigantic map of Belgium will be drawn below the arrow. It will show the locations / of the principal art works of the country.
