This picture was made following SXM//LM-S-IVB separation / and prior to LM extraction from the S-IVB. The Command / and Service Modules were making the docking approach to the / LM//S-IVB. The circular object is the docking drogue assembly / on the LM. When this photograph was made, the Apollo 14 ground / elapsed time was about 3 hours 13 minutes, and the spacecraft / was approximately 6100 nautical miles from Earth on a trans- / lunar trajectory. Due to difficulty with the docking mechanism / six attempts were made before a successful “hard dock” of the / Command Module with the Lunar Module was accomplished. Aboard / Apollo 14 were Astroanuts Alan B. Shepard Jr., commander; Stuart / A. Roosa, command module pilot; and Edgar D.
