Recto, [no inscription]; Verso, handwritten: England / Wales; typed label: WELSH VILLAGE AWAITS DOOM FROM THE SEA. / Amroth, a little seaside village of Pembrokeshire, is spoken of in / Wales as “the doomed village”: it is in danger of being utterly / wiped out by the sea. More than 200 yards of sea wall have been / washed away, and the recent gales have almost finished the defences. / Only a few feet remain of a road which ran from the village down to / the sea. Many villagers have had narrow escapes from the fury of the waves. Cottages have been abandoned, garden walls flattened / and iron railings broken and tweisted by the force of the sea. The / worst season is still to come, when the south-westerly gales / dominate the Atlantic. And the month of March brings the highest / tide of the year. It would seem that the village of Amroth can / hardly escape utter destruction in the inevitable storms. / Photo Shows:- The village street of Amroth, the Pembrokeshire / village which is menaced by the sea. Piles of stones have been / washed clear across the roadway by the heavy seas, opposite / the gap in the old sea wall / Top 7th January 1946 PN.; stamped: [illeg. covered by label]; stamped: Credit: [star shape] / from BLACK STAR / GRAYBAR BUILDING NEW YORK; handwritten: 71//21
